The Alzheimer’s Society Annual Conference 2019 (ASAC19) took place at The Kia Oval, London on 21-22 May. The conference theme ‘The Dementia Priority – Local and Global action’, shining a light on the scale of the problem, but focused on how our actions, our collaborations, policies, and the research we undertake as individuals, builds through partnerships to organisation, community and national change for people with dementia, their carers and families. This aligned with Alzheimer’s Society awareness week – Dementia Action Week (DAW) 19-25 May, of which ASAC19 was a flagship event. British Pest Control Association – PestEx – The Pest Management Show 2019

On 20-21 March 2019, the London ExCeL hosted PestEx-the UK’s trade exhibition and conference for the pest control industry. It’s the largest get together for the pest management sector in the UK. Hosted every two years by the British Pest Control Association (BPCA), PestEx is completely free for anyone interested in public health pest control to attend. After PestEx2017, BPCA decided to part ways with its conference partner to provide greater value for exhibitors, members and visitors. PestEx2019 was the first time the Association has done an international event of this size on its own. Visitors and exhibitors saw no dip in the quality of the show or the organisation of the event. PestEx has been an important fixture in the pest management professionals calendar for many years now, but in 2019 we decided important wasn’t good enough. We stopped calling ourselves “the premier pest control exhibition” and rebranded as simply “the pest management show”. We developed PestEx’s first dedicated website to show that PestEx is the most significant show in the sector. Designed by award-winning membership website specialists, has an event countdown, mobile-friendly agenda, news section, and information for visitors and exhibitors.

National Housing Federation – National Housing Summit

The ambition for the revamped National Housing Summit was to establish it as the most important event for senior leaders in the housing sector, leading the political agenda and shaping the direction of the sector. Moving away from the traditional conference and exhibition format, we wanted to deliver a vibrant, dynamic, destination event. Following an exhaustive research and development process, collaborating with our members, sponsors and colleagues every step of the way, we put together a brand new event, incorporating all the popular elements of previous years whilst introducing a number of new and exciting twists. The Summit delivered on all its key success measures, with improved audience satisfaction, greatly increased sponsorship income and significant national media coverage. With 150+ speakers (including the Prime Minister) across a huge range of session formats, 1000 delegates took part in a conference unlike any the housing sector has seen before, establishing it as the key conference in the sector’s calendar. In the words of one attendee “the Summit is the key event in the sector’s calendar – 2018 was a vintage year!”

Royal College of General Practitioners – RCGP Annual Primary Care Conference and Exhibition

How do you establish the RCGP annual conference as a major event in the primary care calendar well‐attended by GPs? This is the story of how RCGP and Haymarket Professional collaborated to enhance the status of the RCGP Annual National Primary Care Conference. The specific challenge posed for 2018 ‐ to grow the conference through delegate acquisition and commercial support, enhancing the delegate experience, in particular through a programme of social engagements. Working together we achieved record revenue growth – revenue has increased year‐on‐year for the last 4 years, generated from sponsorship, exhibitors, delegate fees and poster submissions. The overall commercial revenue generated in 2018 is the highest achieved in the history of the event. We embraced technology – launching the conference app, moving registration to e‐tickets only, increasing effectiveness of digital marketing and delivering 27.4 million impressions on Twitter in 2018. We completely overhauled the submission and review process from which the 42 concurrent sessions were taken, migrating it 100% online, tripling the number of reviewers and making it simple for members to submit their ideas. Over the last 3 years submissions have increased by 80%. 95% of delegates said they had achieved their objectives by attending the conference.
