Best Awareness Campaign or Advancement of a Cause
AMDEA – Know Watt’s What
Know Watt’s What (KWW) is an innovative, multi-faceted enduring campaign which has garnered truly impressive results over three years. Launched in 2022, the campaign uses highly relevant messages tailored to target various audiences: householders, retailers, regulators and law-makers, as well as consumer-focused stakeholders. The campaign’s execution is timely, imaginative and well-executed, promoting differing aspects of the sustainability of home appliances and the industry to each audience, and uses an assortment of ways to deliver messages including a microsite, social and traditional media, research, publications and events. On the web the content ranges from why you should use the eco button on your washing machine to an energy saving calculator to guide appliance purchasers and elsewhere from working with the top sustainability academics to study appliance user behaviour, to taking policy proposals to politicians in a manifesto launched in Parliament.
British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy – R.A.I.S.E.
The R.A.I.S.E. campaign, launched by BACP and 23red in November 2023, was strategic, creative and had a host of positive outcomes and impacts.
The objective was to help men and their loved ones recognise the symptoms of depression in men and to motivate men with depression to try counselling from a BACP therapist.
The campaign, shaped by insight from our members and surveys, focused on the apronym R.A.I.S.E – risk-taking, anger, isolation, substance abuse and exhaustion – that aimed to highlight the lesser-known symptoms of depression in men.
Outputs included a downloadable booklet, press release, website landing page, media partnership and social media content.
It resulted in 18 pieces of media coverage, and 72% inclusion of key messaging – higher than our objectives. Page views of the landing page and downloads of the booklet were higher than a previous campaign ran in 2022.
The campaign prompted the Health and Social Care Select Committee to contact us to ask for a BACP representative to appear at a hearing about men’s mental health, resulting in our member Anthony Davis speaking in Parliament.
Since the campaign launched, we’ve seen an increase in searches for depression on our directory and on our Google console.
Institute of Biomedical Science – IBMS routes to registration as a biomedical scientist
With limited resources, our solution needed to leverage and galvanise member support for the campaign so we pioneered an innovative “VR to Video” engagement strategy.
Recognising the power of hands-on experience, we partnered with Liquona to develop the innovative IBMS Accredited Space Lab VR experience to grab attention and capture the imagination. The experience places potential biomedical scientists directly into a virtual laboratory, giving them a thrilling taste of the work. They are then invited to have a conversation with a real biomedical scientist and view a video on how to become one.
Institution of Occupational Safety and Health – Raising awareness of neurodiversity
IOSH opened a profession-wide discussion to overcome ignorance and stigma on a topic that had largely been absent from the health and safety agenda: neurodiversity at work. Health
and safety practice must include people who think differently.
IOSH wanted to encourage workplaces to think creatively about this issue, and so developed a series of webinars, events, surveys and papers to inform and educate its members (health
and safety professionals), its wider stakeholder community and staff about the importance and relevance of neurodiversity in the workplace.
The work culminated in the publication of an IOSH white paper, Divergent thinking: embracing neurodiversity at work, which drew together some of the major outputs that had
been produced during the year.
These actions gained great traction. People offered personal testimonies and companies presented themselves as case studies: in IOSH’s member magazine, in its social media
channels, in its staffroom and on YouTube. Members from 28 countries registered for the four webinars.
This initiative to inform and educate is part of a wider process of engagement with difficult subjects that will become increasingly relevant to business and to health and safety
professionals. It will help realise a socially sustainable future of work for everyone.
Nautilus International – Stop fire and rehire at Steam Packet!
The campaign by Nautilus International aimed to influence the Isle of Man Treasury, particularly Treasury Minister Dr. Alex Allinson, regarding the management of the Steam Packet.
Conducted in-house without a set budget, the campaign utilised local media, notably Manx Radio, to disseminate press releases and interviews. Regular correspondence with the treasury minister and briefings for the House of Keys ensured continuous government attention.
A petition via the TUC’s megaphone platform garnered nearly 1,700 signatures, demonstrating public support and engaging members. Nautilus maintained a presence on the island, meeting members and holding online meetings to align actions with their views.
Despite the employer’s threats of dismissal and changes to contracts, 81% of members voted for strike action and 89% for action short of a strike.
Actions commenced on December 27, 2023, leading the employer to withdraw the threats within a week, agree to further talks, and reach a settlement a month later with MIRS’s assistance.
The campaign’s success was measured by achieving its objectives, maintaining solidarity among members, and compelling the employer to negotiate and settle the dispute.
