British Compressed Gases Association – Campaign to ban retail sales of Nitrous Oxide
British Compress Gases Association’s (BCGA) public health campaign is calling for an outright retail ban on Nitrous Oxide to protect consumers, while still allowing legitimate uses of the gas in industry and healthcare.
Known as ‘laughing gas’ Nitrous Oxide is now the most commonly used substance after cannabis among 16-24-year-olds. While legitimately used in hospitals and industries such as catering, supplying Nitrous Oxide for inhalation without an appropriate medical licence and qualified supervision is an offence under the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016.
BCGA worked with government to ensure Nitrous Oxide was included in the 2016 Act and in 2020, the national trade body launched a campaign calling for the Act to be extended to include a ban on retail sales of the gas.
Currently, 8mg canisters of Nitrous Oxide are easily available online, advertised as ‘drink frothers.’ In calling for an outright retail ban, the BCGA believes this loophole will be closed.
Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy – Sustainability Reporting 2021
CIPFA published a professional, international report on public sector sustainability reporting in June 2021. The report was published in CIPFA’s recently refreshed corporate brand, utilised a new digital storytelling tool for the first time, generated press coverage in new publications, established relationships with new stakeholders across continents and disciplines, presented the report’s findings in front of parliamentarians and laid the foundation for future policy and technical work in a new field. For a new initiative, the campaign results were strong and now serve as a great model and reference point for strengthening CIPFA’s brand through future research.
Fire Brigades Union – DECON: To prevent and protect
The DECON project aims to save firefighters’ lives by raising awareness of toxic fire contaminants, which are thought to be linked to cancer, and informing firefighters about the steps they can take to better protect themselves. The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has been working with the University of Central Lancashire to understand the link between fire contaminants and cancer, and to protect firefighters and their families from this risk. As a result of this research, the FBU developed an awareness raising campaign and training to encourage firefighters to protect themselves and others from harmful contaminants. DECON encourages firefighters to make simple changes at work and at home that can help to prevent cancer and other diseases.
National Association of Link Workers – To promote the role, support and develop Social Prescribing Link Workers
NALW is the only professional body for Social Prescribing Link Workers in the UK. Our successful influencing strategy has seen NALW grow into an independent, sustainable, and widely recognised organisation in less than four years. Our innovative annual #LinkWorkerDay campaign has been key to increasing awareness of our organisation and the critical role that Social Prescribing Link Workers play in our healthcare system and communities.
#LinkWorkerDay launched four years ago and has reached millions of people, including members of the public, clinicians, and influencers in healthcare, healthcare policy, and the healthcare media. It has numerous member benefits, including increasing members’ confidence in what they’re doing and how their work is being received and promoting the value of the role.
In 2021 #LinkWorkerDay received a message of support from the Minister for Health, coverage across the media, and 4 million Twitter impressions. #LinkWorkerDay makes the UK Twitter trend each year.
This year #LinkWorkerDay2022 takes place on the 19th of May, in partnership with The Healthcare Show at ExCel, London, the largest gathering of healthcare leaders, demonstrating the significance of our influence and the vital role social prescribing link workers play in health care and healthcare policy.
SolarPower Europe – #SolarWorks: 4 million jobs in solar by 2050 – join the solar workforce!
#SolarWorks – Powering new green jobs in Europe’s solar energy sector.
Solar power is set to become Europe’s main source of energy before the end of the decade. Solar is one of the most job-creating energy technologies and could create 4 million jobs across Europe by 2050. To meet this enormous job potential, it is urgent to mobilise the workforce with the right skills to facilitate the energy transition.
To address this challenge, SolarPower Europe, together with EuropeOn, the European association for electrical contractors, partnered with Grow with Google, to create the #SolarWorks campaign. The programme aims to showcase the diverse range of careers in the solar sector and connect potential solar workers with the right training to get them started.
To inspire the future solar workforce, we produced videos in the solar markets where we expect major solar growth in the coming years: France, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands and Spain. The video series tells the stories of current solar workers on various sites, from an agri-PV plant, floating solar installation to manufacturing facility, where they share their experience and advice on kickstarting a solar career.
