Association of Personal Injury Lawyers – Rusty’s Story
Rebuilding Shattered Lives is APIL’s long-term campaign to put injured people at the heart of policymaking. Rusty shared his story for this short film – produced on a shoestring – to help explain the crucial need for injured victims of negligence to be able to turn to the law to help them get their lives back on track. In Rusty’s case, he was lucky to survive when he was left for dead following a head-on collision with another driver who was travelling at 106mph. Rusty suffered life-changing injuries and, initially, the future looked bleak. But seeing him striding down Bognor Regis seafront you would never know. The campaign’s focus is on storytelling, through real people and Rusty’s Story in particular is a story packed with hope and determination. While facts and figures get attention, uplifting stories of success will change hearts and minds. The film has been successful in generating empathy for people like Rusty, and this is the start of getting the needs of injured people to the centre of any debate about the law on compensation.

ENT UK – Women in ENT Surgery Research Webinar Series
The Women in ENT Surgery (WENTS) Research Webinar Series, hosted by ENT UK, is a powerful initiative championing gender equality in ENT surgery. Building on the success of its leadership-focused debut, the series centred on ‘Research for Women in ENT,’ aiming to inspire, educate, and empower women at all career stages.
Although women make up over 50% of medical students, they represent just 13% of surgical consultants in the UK and remain significantly underrepresented in research. This series addressed these disparities by showcasing varied research career paths, highlighting data on gender gaps, and offering practical advice on funding and mentorship.
Three themed sessions – focused on patient outcomes, emerging research, and personal research journeys – were delivered online, free of charge, and scheduled in the evenings to support those with caring responsibilities. Speakers included international experts, grant recipients, and senior ENT surgeons who fostered a supportive, inclusive environment.
With over 180 registrants, strong engagement, and increased interest in research, the series had a measurable impact. Post-event surveys showed 100% of respondents found the webinars inspiring.
By removing barriers and building community, WENTS is driving long-term change. The next series will explore “Technology and Women in ENT,” continuing its inclusive mission.

Institution of Occupational Safety and Health – IOSH Podcast: CEO Series
Last year, the team behind the IOSH Podcast opened its little black book of contacts to invite chief executives of some of the world’s biggest organisations to sit down with our then President, Stuart Hughes.
When the line-up of interviewees was finalised, we knew we could look forward to important insights for members of IOSH to learn from the top. But no-one had anticipated the depth of feeling and openness that came out from the discussions.
Remarkable stories, untold truths, lessons learned – this series had it all.
