BEST LOBBYING CAMPAIGN
ALL Digital & Huawei EU– #MapTheGap – Digital Skills for Digital Europe
ALL DIGITAL, Huawei, powered by EY created a White Paper exploring the digital skills shortages. To engage stakeholders on the topic of digital skills, we came up with the Digital Skills Gap Quiz with 6 distinct personas under the hashtag #MapTheGap. The quiz shows you what digital skills you may be lacking in a playful and educational way, empowering people to become more digitally skilled.
The campaign was a success due to its strong umbrella concept that relied on a great insight: Digital skills are not a given and we all lack a skill or two, regardless of our experience, education, and occupation.
The campaign had its own visual identity and key visuals that were part of the event branding. We sent out four weekly newsletters shaped through the prism of the concept to maximise registrations. Media outreach and stakeholder mapping sustained the campaign strategy and helped ensure media coverage.
As a result, we managed to exceed our event attendance goals by 30% and received praise for the organisation and creative campaign from many key stakeholders, including MEPs. The event was covered by key EU media such as Euractiv, The Parliament Magazine and EuroEFE.
Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers – Short-Term Let Licensing and Planning Control Area Legislation
The Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers is the membership organisation and trade body representing the traditional self-catering sector in Scotland. Founded in 1978, the ASSC has become the leading source of knowledge on short-term letting and holiday homes in Scotland and regularly conducts advocacy, engagement, and campaigning work on behalf of its more than 1,350 members. Had the ASSC not undertaken a robust, consistent and evidence based 6 year lobbying campaign, the most likely scenario would have seen much harsher restrictions being implemented significantly sooner than was the case on the vital self-catering sector, which benefits the Scottish economy by £867m per annum. In averting this potential damage, the ASSC is proud of its record and takes significant encouragement from these results. Moreover, these achievements have invigorated the association and its members to continue to fight, using all the tools at its disposal, for our professional self-catering community and their families throughout Scotland.
British Compressed Gases Association – Campaign to ban retail sales of Nitrous Oxide
British Compress Gases Association’s (BCGA) public health campaign is calling for an outright retail ban on Nitrous Oxide to protect consumers, while still allowing legitimate uses of the gas in industry and healthcare.
Known as ‘laughing gas’ Nitrous Oxide is now the most commonly used substance after cannabis among 16-24-year-olds. While legitimately used in hospitals and industries such as catering, supplying Nitrous Oxide for inhalation without an appropriate medical licence and qualified supervision is an offence under the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016.
BCGA worked with government to ensure Nitrous Oxide was included in the 2016 Act and in 2020, the national trade body launched a campaign calling for the Act to be extended to include a ban on retail sales of the gas. Currently, 8mg canisters of Nitrous Oxide are easily available online, advertised as ‘drink frothers.’ In calling for an outright retail ban, the BCGA believes this loophole will be closed.
Railway Industry Association – Rail Decarb
The Railway Industry Association (RIA) is the national trade body for UK rail suppliers. Ahead of COP26, RIA launched a lobbying campaign calling on the UK Government to support the decarbonisation of the railway network, in order to achieve a Net Zero railway by 2050. RIA has long raised the issue of decarbonising our rail network, but given the lack of progress, we decided to launch a focussed campaign to accelerate delivery.
