British Thoracic Society – BTS Winter Meeting – 1983 to 2022 and beyond
“This was a great meeting. The right balance of science to clinical; the diversity of speakers, chairs and delegates.”
British Thoracic Society is the foremost professional society for respiratory medicine. The Annual Winter Meeting started in 1983 with around 400 mostly male doctors. Today it has grown to over 2000 delegates representing all members of the multi-disciplinary respiratory team, including nurses, scientists and allied health professionals.
Delegates value networking between grades and disciplines, enjoying the opportunity to share their work and learn about innovations in respiratory care.
The Winter Meeting is the highlight of the UK respiratory calendar, rewarding and promoting opportunities for every career stage. Early career researchers can present posters, publish abstracts and participate as speakers and session chairs, while senior researchers can present Plenary Symposia. This year BTS has added a new award also recognising Mid-career researchers.
The Meeting attracts world-class speakers like Sir Jonathan Van Tam, who supported the UK response to the COVID-19 pandemic and Sir Michael Marmot, who champions awareness of health inequalities.
Diversity and inclusion remain key aims, and the Winter Meeting offers a multi-faith room, quiet rooms for nursing mothers and the opportunity for delegates to bring another person for support.

Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management – IWFM Impact Awards 2022
The Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management (IWFM)’s Impact Awards recognise the sterling work done by those in the workplace and facilities sector to ensure buildings remain fit for purpose and serve the rapidly evolving needs of today’s workforce. IWFM represents a wide range of frontline personnel, including cleaners, caterers, security guards and hospital assistants, as well as those tasked with running such operations in either in-house or outsourced FM teams.
Having returned to an in-person event in 2021 following the pandemic, the challenge for the 2022 Impact Awards was to build on that foundation by going bigger and better. The event, held at London’s Grosvenor House on 17 October, certainly did that.
Beyond the fizz, the glitz and glamour – and the live band that had people dancing into the early hours – the evening really tapped into the need for people in the sector to come together and enjoy themselves, with post-event feedback demonstrating just what a good time guests had. As one attendee commented, it was: “A fantastic event celebrating all that is great about the FM industry!”

Launched in 2010, the annual NACFB Commercial Finance Expo (CFE) has established itself as the UK’s largest intermediary- led trade show for brokers, lenders, and service providers in the commercial finance industry. The first NACFB Commercial Finance expo, hosted 13 years ago at the end of the recession, with just 37 exhibitors, each with a three-by-two trestle table and attendees reaching just under 400, was the start of an ever-growing annual event.
The goal of the NACFB Commercial Finance Expo is, and will always be, to create an opportunity for networking with industry colleagues and peers, buildings relationships, and creating opportunities with commercial finance lenders. We stand between two cohorts and our aim is to facilitate positive engagements between brokers and lenders, and the Commercial Finance Expo is the perfect opportunity to do this.
