BEST MEMBERSHIP SUPPORT SINCE COVID-19 (OVER 4,000 MEMBERS)
Anxiety UK
Anxiety UK is a national charity focusing on providing support to those living with anxiety and related disorders through provision of an extensive range of support services. Our small team is forward thinking and continues to develop unique and original projects that will benefit and support our members through providing choice when it comes to the treatment and management of anxiety in a prompt and accessible manner. We have responded to a huge increase of demand for our membership services due to the Covid-19 pandemic by developing even more accessible online services.
During the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we wanted to ensure that we were able to support our members as much as possible. We sent surveys to members to develop a better understanding of what they wanted/needed during this difficult time.
Once we had gained this valuable data, we were then able to develop new services to further support our members. New services were implemented within a matter of weeks with future planning in place to develop a wider range of digitally accessible solutions.
Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals
The Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) is the Chartered Institute for payroll, pensions, and rewards professionals in the UK, dedicated to raising the profile of payroll across the UK and internationally.
The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) was the government’s primary mechanism for financially supporting the UK’s working population during the pandemic. 11.7m jobs had been furloughed through the scheme, which equated to 1.3m employers, at a cost of £70 billion. Given the scale and lack of knowledge around the scheme, this would not have been realised without practical implementation by the payroll community.
The CIPP was fundamental in working with Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC), supporting members, and the entire payroll community in understanding, communicating, and implementing the CJRS and its revisions at incredible speed and at a critical time for the UK.
Federation of Small Businesses – First Voice
The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is a trade association representing small and medium-sized businesses and the self-employed. And since the start of Covid-19 it has been flooded with a tsunami of questions from its 140,000 members and the UK’s wider community of SMEs.
Never has the role of its multimedia magazine First Voice been more essential in supporting small business owners to overcome the confusion, anxiety and fear for the survival of their livelihoods that the pandemic provoked – and that continue in its wake.
Across every channel, First Voice has delivered gold-standard advice:
• Providing trustworthy information from reliable sources such as the government
• Cutting through the confusion of daily rumours and speculation
• Responding with agility, empathy and understanding of the most effective way to meet small business owners’ needs
Helping the FSB to achieve member and wider stakeholder engagement as it brings to life the organisation’s positioning as ‘Experts in Business’.
Institute of Employability Professionals
We quickly responded to the challenges the pandemic had presented, not just with issues such as remote working but also with coping with anxiety and stress. Providing support to our members, not just in their professional lives but for their personal lives too was a key ‘human’ driver, as was creating an environment of collaboration, bringing people together to share ideas, learning and knowledge about how to do things better and how to support each other. We collaborated with experts, particularly in subjects such as mental health to support both our members and the customers they support We provided resources and tools to help our members who were home-schooling. We created new and regular online opportunities to enable people who were working remotely to still meet with colleagues and their peers to help keep them motivated and reduce isolation. We created a learning management platform to enable our members to study for accredited qualifications, which they could access remotely, to improve their skills and knowledge to provide a better service to their own customers who were struggling as a result of the pandemic. We ensured that members received more frequent communications to help them remain connected.

Nautilus International
Nautilus International is the trade union for maritime professionals at sea and ashore, representing 20,000 workers.
Over the course of the past year, provision from Nautilus has been hugely important for seafarers across the globe. With the COVID-19 pandemic and wider industry issues continuing to cause significant challenges – communication, support, advice and campaigning has been critical.
Nautilus has committed to aiding members at this time, maintaining service standards across all casework despite a surge in requests, lobbying governments and stakeholders to make legislative changes to the benefit of members and the wider industry, championing member interests and securing results in instances of unfair treatment, whilst growing the voice of the Union to a wider audience.
As a result, Nautilus’s achievements on behalf of its members in the past year includes recovering more than £900,000 in unpaid wages for members working in the yacht sector, ensuring that seafarers are exempt from criminal prosecution for helping rescue people at sea and securing amendments to the Maritime Labour Convention to the benefit of seafarers – including social connectivity, appropriate PPE, access to free drinking water and the quality provision of balanced diets.
Pensions Management Institute
As an institute it is important that we find various ways to engage with our members and retain those means throughout of every member’s lifespan with us, the PMI. Over the pandemic, membership organisations saw a decline in their membership numbers. We were determined to not only keep our numbers steady in 2020 but to increase our 6500 membership by 3% in 2021. Another goal of ours was to increase engagement within our organisation as well as spread awareness to the wider industry to those who may not know about the PMI. We proudly grew our membership from 6500 members in 2020 to over 7100 in January 2022.
